What about a band aid? Miss Ashley has been coming over to my house every day more than once a day. On Tuesday she cut her toe right on the tip. Ashley runs around with out shoes most of the time and it kept getting hit. Yesterday I put band aids on it twice....My doorbell rang at 11:56PM. I was already asleep. We answer the door and Ashley is standing there in her pajamas crying her heart out. Did I mention she just turned 5 years old? Do you know what happened? Her toe got skinned again. Her mama wasn't at home and no one was taking care of her. She was freaked out....it was a HUGE deal to her...Where did she come? To my house...for "a cup of cold water"....a hug...to be held...to be soothed...to be given a band aid....and to be made to feel like she was safe...and all of those needs were met.
I recognize that its no small thing to be the one that they come to...I don't think that they would come to see just anybody...they are so smart and they watch every little thing that you do and they catch every inconsistency...I am thankful that I have the opportunity to be the one to love them....to give them drink from the water hose, a band aid, attention and praise....here are a few more little happenings....
Jesse is 10 and he told me yesterday that I was his best friend.
Adrian's mom came home and made him give her the rest of his money so that she could go by dish soap.
Adrian skateboarded on the roof of his house yesterday...with a broken arm.....He is 10 years old and has been in the behavior unit since Kindergarten....he doesn't even know why he is there.....
This morning at 7:45 AM my doorbell rang again. It was Ashely...she literally woke up and walked straight over to my house. She was holding her new kitten and she told me that it was crying. So we set out on my front porch while I held the cat and just talked.....
"And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me."

I love you!! I thank you God everytime i remember you!!
Interesting to know.
