the worth of a soul
.....And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? ....the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough....
I am sure that "gaining the whole world" looks differently to everyone. Relationships - money - status....not everyone seeks the same things. But the pursuit of those things no matter what they are or in what combination we desire them in can be dangerous. The choices that we make so we can gain what we desire here on earth...those are choices that affect eternity.
I was reminded again today of the story of Jesus and the woman at the well. That story can address any area of our lives where we are seeking more of this world. He tells her that He will give her water - living water - and she will never thirst again. Our dry and thirsty souls crave a water that will soothe and fill it up - but we look everywhere else for satisfaction and never find it. In the process of chasing the satisfaction of our souls how many times have we (myself included) made a choice that has given away a piece of our soul to the enemy? Stepped on someone to achieve status, had a sexual relationship outside the marriage bed, lied and gotten a few extra dollars?? Those choices affect us...affect our soul...traps us into the very things we seek after till they become a prison....and what does it do for us? What does it profit us to gain it all and yet we lose our soul in the process?

Mulligatawny
Found a recipe for mulligatawny on Bakingdom! It is sooo good! Because I didn't know how to pronounce "mulligatawny" I Googled it (of course) and found out all sorts on interesting info on the origin of this soup.
So a very brief lesson:
Mulligatawny means pepper water and apparently was "developed" or "created" by the Indian's for the British who were stationed in India because of the British peoples love of soup. (I didn't know the British loved soup??) And since being introduced to the Western culture it has many variations.
Who knew soup could have such a history?? So if anyone ends up making this let me know how you like it! :-)

Fun!
Just saw my mints on Bake It Pretty! Over the Christmas holidays I made these:
I took the pic with my cell phone so it didn't pick up the colors so great, it was way more blue. Anyway, the snowflakes are a butter mint recipe that I found off Bake It Pretty. She talked about her grandmother making those mints for weddings and I was like, "OMG! So did mine!" My grandmother would make the leaves and roses. I remember her making them and lining a Tupperware container with wax paper and layering them in. We (girl cousins) only got one if there was no room left. So it won't surprise you to learn that when I made them I kinda gorged and made myself sick. Later I made dough again and divided it up, colored one green and one red and then added coconut flavoring to one and raspberry to the other. DELISH!! Then I got the bright idea to just make vanilla "mints" (thanks mom)! I bought a flower mold and made several bright colors. To see those check out the Bake It Pretty Blog. I am #6. :-) And by the way, if you are not reading the Bake it Pretty blog regularly, you are totally missing out!

Rangers....
Wow, who knew that the Power Rangers were so intense?? I never watched cause I think I was too old by the time they came out. But evidently there are the "new" thing, at least with my niece. She is 5 and imagines herself to be the Pink Ranger (although I have also heard of her wanting to be the yellow ranger)...she wanted to watch the "Ranger" movie on Saturday so we did. Videos below. Favorite one: Demons are bad guys...this is wisdom. ;-)

And The Winner Is.....
Carlos has been doing t-shirt drawings this week. The way that he picked the winners on the most recent one was by have the cat pick them....it cracked me up and I thought that I would share. Enjoy the creativity! :-)

Privacy
There is no privacy at my house. I hope this isn't awkward for anyone. (I guess that's a warning of sorts) So basically it doesn't matter where you are, @SawyerOSX follows you. If you shut the door to a room you are going into he sits outside of the door till you come out. If you don't shut the door all the way, he opens it. Not just the crack that it would take for him to come in. He pushes the door all the way open. He also makes sure to bring Ralphie in the room with him if you are there for any length of time. So I captured this on video while I was in the tub, (you were warned bout the awkwardness) just to help illustrate the huge lack of privacy going on here....

Its finally happening...
I thought that I would manage to keep my...idk...understanding...of the younger generation far longer than other "adults" I have seen. However, today, I believe I am slowly beginning to lose the connection.
I was on the phone with #celestehead when she asked me what kind of phone I had. I told her a blackberry. Her response? "STILLLLL?????" *sigh* The conversation went down-hill from there, ending with, "Blackberry's are OOLLLLLDDDD like YOU." She did explain that it was the lack a touch screen caused her to come to this conclusion. I tried to defend it only once and gave up under the powerful reasoning of her mind.
Below is a little video she sent...have I mentioned how much I love her?

Jolly Bolly
Had a BLAST gettin ready for an awesome Bollywood themed birthday party. It was the birthday girls 30th and I had sooo much fun with her. I won't spoil anything by posting any other pictures until she posts it all herself. However, I feel there is nothing wrong with PRE-PARTY pic.

Ralphie
Ralphie is Sawyers baby. He takes him all over the house and tries to teach him how to "play" with the toys. Its ridiculous. At night he brings him to the bed. In the morning he takes him out. Who knew a sock stuffed with catnip and with a poorly drawn face could be so loved??

What was he thinking???
I was across the room and had just bent down to dip my paint brush in the paint when the cat jumped on my back and LAYED DOWN. I was like what the heck?? So I stayed crouched over and walked to the other side of the room to get my phone to PROVE that it really happened. Strange kitty.

On the road again....
This week Carlos is djing for this really cool event called Destination Imagination out in Knoxville, TN. We try to use my vacation days for times when I can travel to an event with him. So it seemed like this would be a good one to go to. We decided to drive. 19 plus hour trip. We broke it up and its been really good. Lot's of time to talk....right now we are in a serious time of transition so just getting hours of uninterrupted time to work through all these ideas is great! We got into Knoxville last night around midnight and slept in this morning. However, we didn't get to sleep in that long though cause this hotel is FILLED with all the kids that are competing at this event we are at. They are up early down in the Lobby and running up and down the halls. LOL! Carlos said they own Knoxville right now cause ALL the hotels are filled with them. You should check out their website. It's amazing. There are kids from all over the world here. While we are gone my brother is staying at our house watching it and feeding our cat Sawyer. Sawyer....brings 2 things to mind. Lost....I'm hoping that my brother will watch it while we are gone but he is pretty determined NOT to.....the second thing is how annoying the cat is while we are watching TV. Video below is a great example...HA my poor brother!

Craziness
Before I can tell you what I really want to talk about I need to let you know a bit of history....

Carlos told me that I should use google reader for all my blogs I check. So I do and I love it. One of the blogs I subscribe to is Apartment Therapy. Now this blog is crazy cause it posts 60 times a day...and since I have about 30 other blogs I subscribe to thats about a 100 blog posts in a day. I really cant read that many posts even if all I do is just scroll thru them. Needless to say I am pretty behind (I had 584 blog posts in my reader today and over 500 were from AT) But since I had some extra time I decided to read all my blogs. And that's when I saw THIS PIC (a month late but oh well):

Okay - so what I want to tell you is that I think the fact that someone can make their own ice rink in their back yard is nuts. I mean wow. I just don't think I am well-traveled cause that would have NEVER crossed my mind. All I think about putting in my back yard is a pool. LOL!! I really love the ice rink idea. So if Carlos ever up-roots me like he is seriously considering and we move somewhere very cold, we are totally doing this. So all my Texas friends/family, check out this HOME HACK from APARTMENT THERAPY and imagine....me falling on my booty...but I would get better at it and then I could play HOCKEY.
I highly recommend AT cause its got such great design/decor ideas.
Here is a little tip/trick I use when I am reading stuff on the net and stumble across a pic of something awesome/unique. I have a folder on my desktop called IDEAS (so clever) and I always (for you pc users) right click on the pic and just save it in the folder. Then I can always go back and look at the pictures for ideas on different things. :-)
